Below are some handouts from Ms. Maria, our school guidance counselor. It might be helpful for parents to have the same training information that the teachers do. This may lead to better classroom and school discipline as well as at home.

Community Helpers
For the past two weeks, we have been learning about community helpers and have had a chance to speak to a few and experience some in the classroom.
We had the fire department out to speak to the children about what it is like to be a fireman and about fire prevention, so please talk to your kids about what needs to be done in the case of a fire. The kids LOVED getting to explore the truck!
We also had some parents come in and share with the kids. Tosh’s mom visited the class and spoke with the children about her job as a social worker. Sage’s dad came and talked to the class about how he designs tools and the children were even able to create their own screwdrivers! We also talked about construction workers, made tool belts and tried out lots of different tools. Sage’s mom also came in and spoke to the children about being a yoga instructor and taught them a few moves. What a blast!
Finally, we learned about chefs, and as you can see, the children had a great time making their own chef hats and decorating cupcakes!

It's Conference Time!!!
Hello Parents!
It is conference time and we need to set up times this week and next. I can do conferences via email, phone, or in person. These conferences are to inform you of where your child is at this point in the year and to let you know that if your child were at the end of the year at this point in their academics, whether or not they would pass. We will also sit down and discuss what you can be doing at home to help your child pass to the next grade level as well as the homework issue.
The following are my open hours to conference with you. Please email ASAP to let me know when you can fit yourself in so I can get it on the calendar.
Mondays: 330pm-6pm
Tuesdays: 330 pm- 530pm
Wednesdays: 330 pm-530pm
Thursdays: 430p-530p
Fridays: 330p- 530p
These dates will be this week and next and conferences should last no longer than 20 mins. If you need more time, please let me know.
Like I said please email me back as soon as possible and make sure when you email me please put your child’s name in the subject heading and let me know the date and time. If changes need to be made on my end I will call you to let you know. If changes need to be made on your end please let me know at least a day in advance.
Thank you for all your help!

New Year, New Look
This past weekend we gave our classroom a much needed facelift with some new paint and cubbies. If you haven't seen it already, stop by and check it out! Ontonette Awosika chose the most beautiful shade of blue called "blue agave" and we also painted the back of one of the classroom doors with chalkboard paint. The cubbies also look terrific and have helped immensely with keeping the room organized. A BIG BIG thanks to Ontonette as well the Angel, Demers and Branciforte families for all their hard work!!!

Getting Ready for our Garden
This week we started our year-long gardening project by weeding the plant boxes outside of our classroom. The kids had a blast learning about the life cycles of plants and getting a little dirty! The class also began an experiment on rain where they made rain bags to monitor rainfall. Thanks Meredith Angel and Anna Voelzow for all your help!!!!
